TEEN DRIVERS EDUCATION

TEEN DRIVERS EDUCATION PROGRAMS

Mr. D’s Driving School provides drivers education in the classroom and behind the wheel for teen students. We have helped more than 3,000 teen drivers get their license since 2005. Our program follows the guidelines of Illinois’ program, The Graduated Drivers License Program (GDL) to ensure safety and allow beginning drivers to gain more driving experience while under the supervision of an adult. The program is broken into stages which allows students to work up to a full license and become a safe, responsible driver.

COMPLETE TEEN DRIVING PROGRAM

In our Complete Teen Driving Program, the classroom portion is made up of 15 two hour classes, for a total of 30 hours. Students will drive Behind the Wheel (BTW) for a total of six hours and observe for six hours. Drive times are set up for two hour sessions, two students per session. Each session counts as one hour of drive time and one hour of observation. All students in the state of Illinois must pass the 30 hours of classroom instruction, and the BTW portion, in order to get their license. The cost is $450 per individual.   REGISTER

BEHIND THE WHEEL ONLY PROGRAM

This program is for students who may not have passed the Behind the Wheel (BTW) portion and need to retake it or for students that needs more supervised instruction. This program includes six hours of BTW and six hours of observation, if needed. The cost is $350 per individual.  REGISTER

CLASSROOM ONLY PROGRAM

This program is for students who have failed the classroom portion, or who are just looking for a refresher. Illinois requires that students must pass the 30 hours of classroom instruction and the BTW portion in order to get their license. The cost is $300 per individual.  REGISTER

BEHIND THE WHEEL (HOURLY)

Hourly lessons are offered to the student who just needs a little extra work on a particular driving task or just want some extra practice. The cost is $75 per hour. REGISTER

PERMIT REQUIREMENTS

Teens can get their permit up to 30 days prior to the class start day. Students must be at least 15, have proof of passing grades in at least eight classes in the previous two semesters, be registered for an upcoming class, and their account must be paid in full. Students may choose to wait to get their permit until they feel they are ready to take the written exam.

Students are required to hold their permit for a minimum of nine months which will give them more time to gain experience under the supervision of an adult before being issued a license. During the nine months, students must get at least 50 practice hours with a parent/guardian, and 10 of those hours have to be at night.

EXPERIENCE IS THE KEY TO DRIVING

A teenager will probably do nothing more dangerous in an average day than to get into a vehicle and drive. Lack of experience is one of the leading causes of automobile accidents. Learning to be a good driver takes time.  At Mr. D’s Driving School, you’ll get the training and driving experience in stages to be a successful new driver. We help students safely work up to a full license by adhering to Illinois’ Graduated Drivers License Program (GDL). Since the GDL became law in 2008, teen driving deaths are down nearly 60% in the state of Illinois.
